Here it is! My TOP60 of 2011! (I tried to make it TOP40 but I just couldn’t cut it down any further!) Another amazing year at Jonny Draper Photography filled with awesome experience after awesome experience. Another year of meeting some of the loveliest people you could ever possibly wish to meet and another year of working at some of the best venues and with some of the best suppliers in the wedding industry. To all of my brides and grooms and to all of my wonderful wedding friends – thank you for making 2011 an absolute joy. I’m looking forward to more of the same this year!

So without further ado, my favourite images in no particular order. As with my 2010 review, I set myself a couple of simple rules so as to (hopefully!) not bore you to tears reading this blog post and instead let you just look at and enjoy the images. The rules were: Only 60 images (I worked out that I shot over 100,000 images last year so it’s been a bit of a task to cut them down again!) and only a simple line about each one. Here we go…!!!

The gorgeous Poppy at Styal Lodge modelling for our ‘Future of Vintage’ shoot as featured on English Wedding (you can see the whole shoot HERE)  We could have been in Ibiza the weather was that good!  One of my iconic images of 2011 – so much so that it is about to be hung on our lounge wall!

I’ve heard rumours about photographers not allowing guests to take pictures at weddings they shoot – obviously I don’t roll like that, but even if I did, I’d have struggled to stop Lisa & Eric’s guests at Thornton Manor!!!

Kelly & Mike’s Inn at Whitewell wedding – stunning.  That’s it.

005kelly_mike_wedding_sneakblog_012

Alexis & Adam’s wedding at Mitton Hall.  Wowsers.  What a gorgeous evening for the the most gorgeous couple.  Ali & Adam REALLY loved everything about their wedding and the photography and were so keen to use their amazing venue to it’s full potential.  As with all the images in this post, I could have used hundreds of images from their wedding, so it was tough cutting it to this one.  But I’m sure you’ll agree it’s a worthy entry!

Another Mitton Hall wedding, this time Jenna & Chris’s big day (that’s not Chris on the left by the way!) – I just loved Jenna & her bridesmaid’s matching Vivienne Westwood shoes!

So this is a slightly unusual post in that it’s actually a genuine engagement portrait, taken straight after this gorgeous couple got engaged.

Emma and I were in New York to shoot Karey & Kate’s amazing wedding celebrations and took advantage of the fact that we were over there and stayed for a few days after the wedding. Monday 1st November saw us head across Brooklyn Bridge from Manhattan to the amazing River Cafe for dinner. Now, although I hadn’t been before, I knew roughly where the restaurant was in relation to the river, bridge and Manhattan skyline, so of course took my camera, a mini tripod and a flash gun along for us to have ‘a play’ with on the terrace of the River Cafe (at the end of the night, AFTER our romantic meal!)

We were outside, shooting the skyline and setting up some shots of the two of us on the timer when we were joined by two couples who were wanting to take some pictures of themselves. Emma and I quickly realised that one couple had literally just got engaged and so I offered to take a shot of the two of them and gave them my details to email me so I could send them the image.

I was straight back into weddings as soon as we got back from New York so it was a nice surprise when I got an email from Christina last week asking if she could see the picture I took of her and her brand new fiance – the very dashing Luis! I sent it over and to my delight she emailed me back saying how much she loved the image!

So I thought I’d blog it, to show the ‘other end’ of weddings – the part that I don’t normally get to see! The very beginning…

Congratulations guys!  Hope to speak to you soon!

Just a very quick blog of a shot I got whilst out walking with my family up at Bowstones and Lyme Park in Cheshire yesterday.  It was a gorgeous morning, started out very bright and cold and gradually the sky got moodier and moodier.  This image is the view from the bench (where we were resting!) right next to Bowstones, looking down towards Whaley Bridge, Disley, that sort of area.

Taken on the Iphone 3GS which isn’t renowned for having a particularly great camera function on it, I’ll certainly be using it again in the future when the SLR isn’t to hand (although I don’t think I’m quite ready to start shooting weddings on the Iphone yet!)

I have obviously done a little bit of processing, some dodging and burning to bring out the detail in the sky, I’ve desaturated it to give it an even more moody feel and I’ve added some digital ‘noise’ which is the similar to the grain effect you would get with film.

Pretty nice for a camera phone shot though?!

I wanted to share some of these images before all the snow disappears!  Emma and I decided on an afternoon at the zoo last weekend (it seemed a good idea at the time!) and of course, it was a great opportunity to take the camera along and see if any of the residents would dare to come out of their hidey holes!  Not many did…so opportunities were limited, but I got some great stuff in the snow that is definitely a rarity.

Here’s some of my favourites from the day…

001
002

I love the penguins!  I always think that when they’re walking, they look like people dressed up in penguin suits!

003

This heron had obviously figured out when feeding time was!

004
005

The tiger looked pretty content catching up on his sleep in the afternoon sun…although it wasn’t particularly warm!

006

The black and white version of this shot just works so well with the rhino’s powerful image…

007

No idea what this little fella is called – but I loved how colourful he was….

008
009

The fantastically named….’Warty-pig’!  (seriously!)

010
011

How cool is this guy?  Apparently he just sits there watching the people watching him….

012

And finally…the low winter sun…
